Mom Arrested After Her Daughters Swallow Her Pills

A Five Points mother was arrested during the weekend when her small daughters reportedly swallowed pills she had left scattered on her bed while she was unconscious.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were called to the emergency room at Crockett Hospital late Sunday. A nurse informed them that the grandmother had brought two girls, ages 5 and 6, in for treatment shortly before 11:00 p.m.

The grandmother reported that the girls had called her, saying they were unable to wake their mother, Rachel Kay Bond, age 31. They told her that they had taken some of Bond’s pills, then became frightened.

The girls told deputies they had been playing in Bond’s bedroom when they found a bottle of pills lying on the bed with the top off.  The girls said that they swallowed some of the pills, but were unable to remember how many.

The grandmother said that Bond became outraged because she was going to take the girls to the hospital. She allegedly stated that, “They would probably be all right since they only took one, maybe two pills.” She then threatened the grandmother both verbally and physically.

Reports show that deputies confronted Bond at her Second Creek Road home. They indicate that she was intoxicated at the time. When they entered they noticed broken glass strewn across the living room floor. They asked Bond to show them where she kept her medications, then followed her to her bedroom. They report the room smelled strongly of marijuana.

When questioned about the odor, deputies report that Bond admitted she had smoked marijuana, “Because she was stressed out.”

Pills, marijuana and rolling papers were seized from the home along with a metal pipe, screens, a mirror with drug residue, a plate bearing drug residue, and other items of drug paraphernalia.

Bond was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was booked under charges that include two counts of child neglect, two counts of possession of Schedule II narcotics, possession of Schedule IV narcotics, simple possession of marijuana, and domestic assault.

Bond has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 19, 2013.
